Apaixonado por computadores desde os 10 anos, formou-se em Ciência da Computação em 2005. Trabalhou em uma grande universidade belga desenvolvendo aplicações de e-learning, onde acabou se tornando o DBA MySQL da instituição. Em 2017 saiu da universidade e entrou na Pythian como consultor MySQL. Hoje atua na PlanetScale, apoiando grandes clientes que rodam MySQL em escala.

Introduction to Vitess - Open Source Sharding framework for MySQL

Vitess is an open-source database solution for deploying, scaling, and managing large clusters of MySQL instances that started scaling YouTube in 2010. It was designed to support high levels of read and write traffic for applications that need to scale horizontally across many servers. In this presentation I will walk you through the steps to migrate your current MySQL based solution into Vitess. I will go over best practices on how to run your Vitess cluster and we can discuss some real world learnings from migrations we have done. Examples like how to deal with version upgrades in the migration process, handle timezone differences or how to test your application-compatibility with the Vitess system.
